It has been such a pleasure seeing our students and their families on campus this week for student-led conferences. This is an opportunity for your child to take the lead and reflect on their learning experience thus far. Themes of "I belong here", "I am able to be my true-self", "I really like my teachers", and "my child is finally enjoying school" have emerged so far.
We believe our students deserve every opportunity to feel heard, seen, and understood. We are looking forward to seeing all of you joining us, either virtually or in person to celebrate your child's academic successes and collaboratively discuss solutions to concerns.
Your voice matters!
Please complete the Parent Guardian Survey to provide us feedback about your experience at IVAHS.
If you have not signed up for a conference yet, please view the sign up list ParentSquare or email info@academylongbeach.org, and reserve a convenient time to meet with your student's advisor/teachers! If you would like to attend the conference virtually, please add it in the notes section when you sign up. You can also request for additional teachers or staff members to attend. Our goal is to meet with 100% of our students and their families. Let's go!

STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES
What are student-led conferences? Students write reflection letters to identify what struggles they have faced, and where they have grown. Students thoughtfully connect their experiences to the virtues, deepening their understanding of their own thinking and learning. We believe in partnering with our IVAHS families, collaboratively, and holistically guiding our students towards success. We align the conference process with our mission: to foster meaningful growth in intellectual virtues in a thoughtful, challenging, and supportive academic environment.
We will also be asking each parent/guardian to complete a survey. Your feedback helps us to build a stronger community. We look forward to connecting with you all. If you have any questions on this, please don't hesitate to contact us! info@academylongbeach.org, or call/text 562.283.4456.
COLLEGE & CAREER SPOTLIGHT
IVAHS prepares students for college, career, and life. During Senior week, Mrs. Briceno, our School Counselor, led a presentation about life after high school. She met with each senior individually to review their transcripts and life passions in order to connect them to college and career opportunities.
On Oct. 5, the seniors took a tour of LBCC's campus to learn about college programs; Assoc. Degrees, GE to transfer options, certificates and technical career pathways. They also connected with people and resources on campus to support dual enrollment and/or college admission in the Fall. This week she has been working with each senior to find their "College Supermatch" and choose courses for Spring Dual Enrollment. Seniors are also collecting items needed for college applications!
On Sept. 25th Operation Jump Start (OJS) visited our campus to recruit 9th and 10th graders to join a community of college-minded peers. OJS helps low-resourced, high-potential first generation students get in, stay in, and graduate from a four-year college. They provide academic support, mentoring, and exposure to a broader world.
Stay tuned this month for Junior week, a visit from a Navy Officer and our District City Council Representative!

WELCOME RYAN OXFORD
We are excited to welcome Ryan Oxford as our art teacher this year. Ryan is teaching Art II, developing a digital world through the UNREAL platform. Ryan is a highly creative individual who has spent 25 years in various innovative industries as both a content creator and entrepreneur. He has thrived in the Hollywood ecosystem having written and produced multiple television and film projects for Universal Pictures, Disney, New Line Cinema, Warner Bros., MTV and others. Click HERE for his bio.
When asked why he chose IVAHS he said:
"IVAHS presented me with a great challenge and therefore a wonderful opportunity to build an art program that truly speaks to the future demands of our student's post-graduate journey. IVAHS has supported an evolving definition of artistic expression to include, not just tactile mediums, but digital applications that further foster a student's inherent curiosity. I look forward to working alongside IVA staff and its students to explore what it means to be an artist in a digital world." - Ryan Oxford
DR. LEE & MR. PICKENS
You may have noticed that Dr. Lee and Mr. Pickens have not been on campus as much this year. Although they both remain part of our Academy family, their professional roles have shifted. They have handed many of their responsibilities to Mrs. B and Mr. Oxford, however they will continue to make their mark within our community. You may continue to see them around campus and at our school events throughout the year. We look forward to evolving partnerships and adventures together.
