Welcome back to school! IVA High School is more than memorization and test taking. In our learner-centered school, we co-create a joyful, equitable and academically challenging community. We started the year with a diverse panel of our students, presenting to our new and returning faculty. Our students authentically shared about their hopes, fears, and transformational experiences. At IVA High, our students are seen, heard, and known.
Over the summer, our teachers participated in a deep dive into Project-Based Learning, developing authentic learner-centered experiences for our students. Teachers collaborated to develop a relevant and exciting standards-based curriculum to prepare our students for college, career, and life. We will be welcoming community speakers, as well as taking students into our community to move inquiry to impact.
We re-established our partnerships with LBCC for dual enrollment and EXP for paid internship opportunities. We also added a College and Career Readiness class for seniors. We prepare students for college, career, and life.
We look forward to introducing our staff to you at Back to School night and sharing all of the amazing opportunities our students will be offered this school year.
Sincerely,
Summer Sanders

Campus Information
ParentSquare Emails
IVA High School uses ParentSquare to communicate with families about campus related updates, important school wide notifications, and class specific information. An invitation to register for ParentSquare was sent to parent emails prior to the beginning of the school year and during the first week of school.
If you are a parent with a student who is currently attending IVA High School, please accept the ParentSquare invitation and register for an account to receive emails from our school. If you have not received an invitation email, please send us an email at info@academylongbeach.org.
Lunch Program
Beginning in the 2022–23 school year, California will become the first state to implement a Universal Meals Program for school children. As participants in the National School Lunch Program, this means that every child at IVA can have access to a free lunch and a free breakfast every day of the school year. We are very excited to be part of this first-in-the-nation program.
As part of this program, we are still required to obtain lunch applications from each of ourfamilies. These completed lunch applications will qualify our school for important funding opportunities, both for the nutrition program, and also for other services such as after school programs, tutoring, and more. We are working hard to achieve the goal of receiving 100% of our students' applications. Current IVA families, please visit our lunch program webpage to apply for the lunch program.

IVA IN THE NEWS!
USC's Research Study on IVA
USC's 4-year, half-million dollar research on IVA's intellectual virtues model has just been completed. The study, led by Professor Immordino-Yang, found that students at IVA (compared with students from similarly situated public schools) had increased academic outcomes as well as "a greater purpose in life, wisdom, and a growth mindset." We will share more about this study in a future newsletter!
Enrollment Update
IVA High is currently enrolling students going into 9th through 12th grade for next school year! Interested families should contact us for a tour or more information. Information session and shadow dates will be announced soon. Please email info@academylongbeach.org to inquire about enrollment!
