Can you believe it? We are half way to spring break! Teachers have been curriculum planning, connecting with community partners, and laying the academic groundwork for students to dive into their culminating projects. Stay tuned for project launches and more academic field trips! These projects will be presented at Exhibition of Learning on April 13th, save the date!
IVA High has also been focusing on community connections this month. From IVA Snow Day to the Renaissance Festival and Medieval Times, students have been finding joy in being back at school. (Jousting with a friend or throwing a pie at a teacher's face really helps.)

Prospective Parent Events
Parents need community too! Last Thursday, our IVA High Outreach team hosted an event where prospective parents met current IVA High parents. During the event, parents and faculty shared how IVA High has impacted their lives and the lives of their children.
As our outreach team starts the process of enrolling students for next year, we hope to create more opportunities for prospective parents to meet and hear from current IVA High parents.
If you would like to host one of these events in your neighborhood, please contact Myriam Loeschen from our outreach team at myriam.loeschen@academylongbeach.org. We will bring the food and drinks, you bring friends who want to learn more about our school community.
Campus Highlight
IVA High Renaissance Festival
During Advisory last Friday, our students participated in a Renaissance Faire that was planned and executed by each of the Advisory classes! Activities included "Pie a Teacher", flower crown making, tarot card readings, card games, axe throwing, and bobbing for apples. Most notably, our students enjoyed dueling in the inflatable jousting ring!
After a successful Renaissance Faire, our students will experience a live action show filled with jousting and a feast at Medieval Times. We look forward to sharing about the field trip experience!
IVA High Snow Day
Last Tuesday, 15 IVA High students and a few of our staff members went to Big Bear for a snow day! Our students, some of whom have never seen snow, were able to try out snowboarding and skiing with the guidance of Mr. Schmidt, Mrs. Makenna, Mrs. Mauter, and Mr. McGrath. While having fun, students were tenacious and demonstrated humility as they engaged in a new activity.
We are grateful to Dave Park, our staff, and parents for making this field trip a possibility! We look forward to planning more outdoor related field trips for the near future!
Campus Updates
EXP & IVA Internship Program
Congratulations to the 11 students who applied and were chosen to participate IVA High's Internship Program. Students completed their first two workshops this month covering topics like how to "Dress for Success" and career portfolio development. These motivated IVA High students will now have the opportunity to be hired as a paid summer intern. The EXP internship program prepares students for the workplace through career-readiness workshops and hands-on internship experiences.
GO IVA INTERNS!
Family Alliance
We enjoyed seeing some of our IVA High parents at our first Family Alliance Meeting of 2022! During the meeting we shared about our most recent WASC update, field trip updates, senior events, and campus highlights. Our next Family Alliance meeting will be on March 17th from 12:30-1:30pm. We encourage IVA High parents/guardians to attend!
